1. To facilitate interaction among the various institutions and individuals involved in peace promotion, conflict management, inter-religious amity and Gandhian constructive work.


2. To arrange exchange of scholars both in India and abroad as part of their academic and professional pursuits.


3. To institute Fellowships/Scholarships/Visitorships/Scholar-in- Residence, both in the Universities and Institutions in India and aborad in order to encourage talented scholars and activists to sharpen their skills.


4. To help young scholars in locating appropriate Centres for internship as part of their academic requirements.


5. To effectively interact with Centres of Peace Studies, Conflict Management, the Gandhi Bhavans and the Departments of Gandhian Studies in the Universities in India and abroad.


6. To facilitate greater interaction between Gandhian scholars, activists, voluntary organizations and Departments and Agencies such as UGC, ICCR, ICSSR, UNESCO, ICWA, etc.


7. To collect and disseminate information on the opportunities and facilities available in various institutions in different parts of the world on peace studies, non-violence, conflict management and Gandhian studies and encourage setting up of regional/zonal libraries/ study centres, wherever possible, and.


8. Facilitate networking of institutions/groups/individuals who share the Gandhian vision of a world without war and violence and an eco- friendly vision of life which will ensure harmonious and just social order.


9. To work for the promotion of communal unity and encourage alternative life style by offering employment opportunities by a creative interpretation of Gandhi’s constructive programmes.The ICGS besides discussing crucial socio-economic and political issues at its annual conferences which were held under the presidentships of such eminent national leaders as Hon. R. Venkataramn, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Sadiq Ali, B. N. Pande, Dr. Devedra Kumar designed and launched a number of initiatives.
